The DIA's centerpiece is Rivera Court — Diego Rivera's 27-panel 'Detroit Industry' murals wrap a four-sided courtyard, painted 1932–33 as a tribute to the city's workers. Beyond it: Van Gogh's 'Self-Portrait' (the first Van Gogh bought by a US museum), Breughel's 'Wedding Dance', a real Egyptian mummy display and one of the country's strongest collections. General admission is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties; tourists pay a modest fee.
~$18 for non-residents; tri-county residents free.
Group entrance on John R St — coach lane is marked.
Rivera Court — the murals are genuinely one of America's great artworks.
