Built in 1916 as a shipping and recreation pier, Navy Pier now stretches half a mile into Lake Michigan as Chicago's most-visited attraction. The 196-ft Centennial Wheel turns slowly in climate-controlled gondolas, shoreline cruises depart from the south dock, and the pier packs in the Chicago Children's Museum, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, seasonal fireworks and festival halls.
Entering the pier is free; rides, cruises, museums and parking are paid separately.
Yes — the pier garage accepts oversized vehicles for a fee; group drop-off is at the Grand Ave entrance.
Summer Wednesdays and Saturdays around 9–10 PM; check the calendar for holiday shows.
